Why might it make sense to install an additional balancer in a finished battery/storage system?
Most readers are probably aware that a modern lithium iron phosphate battery requires a balancer to equalize the cell voltages, ensuring a long lifespan and high capacity. If you're building your own battery, installing a balancer is practically mandatory; I've explained this many times in my numerous LiFePO4 battery projects, see [link/reference]. z.B. 24V/5000Wh LiFePo4 DIY project or our 12V LiFePo4 tutorial project. A balancer is usually already included with a purchased battery. A battery management system (BMS) is installed. Unfortunately, very often the BMS only contains a passive balancer or a very weak balancer. These balancers often only equalize the cells with very small currents, often less than 25 mA, to equalize the voltages.
